Comfort Me

"Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted." - Matthew 5:4

As we navigate this war zone (in the conflict between love and selfishness) we will sadly experience suffering and loss. Knowing this, and having experienced this too, God sent us the Holy Spirit to comfort us in our time of need. He cares for us, and His heart breaks with us. He longs to comfort us and protect us like a mother hen does for its chicks.

We are also told to comfort each other with the words of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 in which we are reminded that the Lord will come back and raise up those who have died believing in Him. So even though the pain of losing a loved one hurts tremendously, we have the hope that it will only be for a short time and that we will see them again.

"Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband... And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
- Revelation 21:2-4

"What a wonderful God we have — he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us. You can be sure that the more we undergo sufferings for Christ, the more he will shower us with his comfort and encouragement."

All My Days

"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8

How amazing and wonderful is it that a God that knows and sees everything can still love us, even enough to die a tortured death to redeem us? Even when we are at our worst and friends or family have given up on us our loving Heavenly Father still searches for us and longs to bring us home. Not only does He have incredible mercy and compassion for us, but He even knows exactly what we go through.

"Therefore, in all things He (Jesus) had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted." - Hebrews 2:17-18

A God that loves us that much is worth following and giving our lives to. We just want to praise Him continually and thank Him for the mercy and love that He has shown towards us. But the best part is that when we give Him our lives He changes us. Every day we get a little more like Him, and we get the power to live much better lives than we have in the past.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." - 2 Corinthians 5:17

It is now our purpose to praise the love shown to us by our Heavenly Father and to show others the transformational power of His love in our changed lives. "Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God." - 2 Corinthians 5:20

Oh loving Heavenly Father, "how You loved us in our darkest days, how You love us despite our ways. For Your mercy we will give You praise, and we will love You for all our days!"

Nothing Left

"Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’" - Matthew 22:35-37

The key word in the quote above is "all". All means everything, 100%. That is hard. Much easier said than done. Giving God everything doesn't mean just the bad stuff like our stress and our fears; it also means our hopes and dreams too.

We are control freaks by nature, having been taught that our hard work is responsible for our happiness, and we struggle with giving control to anyone else. Yet we are promised that if we give God control of our lives we will end up in a much better place than if we try to do it ourselves.

"You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." - Psalm 16:11

This song is the prayer of our hearts: that we are able to give God everything, holding nothing back, and that we will always remember that this life is way bigger than just us.

Reign In Me

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me." - Psalm 51:10

While walking to work one day, the music and words for this song started coming to Chris, and in a short time he was able to write it.

This song, or rather prayer set to music, is the desire for the Holy Spirit to come in and reign in our minds and to lead us in the right direction. When we see how good God has been to us and how much He loves us we can't help but fall in love with Him and want to fellowship with the presence of His spirit.

"When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”" - Psalm 27:8

Lord, please come and reign in us and let Your love shine out through us to those we encounter.

Don't Rue the Day

"Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?" - 2 Peter 3:11-12

Those of us who have grown up in the church have been hearing about the second coming of Jesus for our entire lives. And even though it is the blessed hope and our rescue out of this war zone some of us have secretly wished for its delay so that we accomplish or experience certain things in this life. Even if they are good things like being married or having kids we should never wish for a delay in the return of our Savior as it will be the greatest day in the history of humanity.

Though many will be terrified and will cry out for the rocks to hide them, we who love Jesus and believe that He is the Son of God should be so excited and overjoyed to see our precious Savior in person. In fact just the thought of seeing Him come in His glory should give us the hope and strength to fight through the storms of this life.

God loves us, and wants nobody to be left out. But He respects our free will and wants people to choose to be with Him forever. If we believe that Jesus is coming back soon, and we do, don't we have an obligation to tell people and find those who are willing to say yes to a life with Him? We can't just keep this good news to ourselves, we must do as Jesus commanded and share it with all who will listen, and in doing so help hasten His return.

"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work." - Revelation 22:12
