I used to see the sun,
brighten up my day,
and feel it warm my skin
But then overnight,
the clouds blocked my sight,
and a storm came rolling in
That everything can change so fast,
shakes me to this day
You're all I have!
But You're all I need
When my soul cries out,
comfort me, Lord comfort me
Comfort me
Not so long ago,
I stepped out on the waves,
so strong in my faith
But life's raging sea,
has overtaken me,
now I cry out to be saved
Sinking I reach for You.
Will You reach for me?
You're all I have!
But You're all I need
When my soul cries out,
comfort me, Lord comfort me
When I'm all alone,
and everything I've known,
is no help to me now
When the pains too much to bear,
remind me that You care,
and You'll get me through somehow
The pieces of my broken heart,
I put into Your hands
You're all I have!
But You're all I need
When my soul cries out,
comfort me, Lord comfort me
Comfort me
About This Song
"Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted." - Matthew 5:4
As we navigate this war zone (in the conflict between love and selfishness) we will sadly experience suffering and loss. Knowing this, and having experienced this too, God sent us the Holy Spirit to comfort us in our time of need. He cares for us, and His heart breaks with us. He longs to comfort us and protect us like a mother hen does for its chicks.
We are also told to comfort each other with the words of 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 in which we are reminded that the Lord will come back and raise up those who have died believing in Him. So even though the pain of losing a loved one hurts tremendously, we have the hope that it will only be for a short time and that we will see them again.
"Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband... And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." - Revelation 21:2-4
"What a wonderful God we have — he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement, we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us. You can be sure that the more we undergo sufferings for Christ, the more he will shower us with his comfort and encouragement."
- 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (Message)
