It's been way too long
that I've been living for myself
And I know it's wrong
'cause I belong to someone else
The secret of this life
Is to learn to sacrifice
Lord please, let there be
Nothing, nothing left of me
I want to give you all, that I am
All my dreams, I put into Your hands
Until there's nothing left
The hardest thing to do
is to let go of control
But I can trust You with my life
If I can trust You with my soul
The secret of this life
Is to learn to sacrifice
Lord please, let there be
Nothing, nothing left of me
I want to give you all, that I am
All my dreams, I put into Your hands
Until there's nothing left
What about my dreams? I've got so many plans
Will they come to be? If I put them in Your hands
What about my fears? And my insecurities?
If I give them all to You, will You finally set me free?
The secret of this life
Is to learn to sacrifice
Lord please, let there be
Nothing, nothing left of me
I want to give you all, that I am
All my dreams, I put into Your hands
Until there's nothing left
About This Song
"Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'" - Matthew 22:35-37
The key word in the quote above is "all". All means everything, 100%. That is hard. Much easier said than done. Giving God everything doesn't mean just the bad stuff like our stress and our fears; it also means our hopes and dreams too.
We are control freaks by nature, having been taught that our hard work is responsible for our happiness, and we struggle with giving control to anyone else. Yet we are promised that if we give God control of our lives we will end up in a much better place than if we try to do it ourselves.
"You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." - Psalm 16:11
This song is the prayer of our hearts: that we are able to give God everything, holding nothing back, and that we will always remember that this life is way bigger than just us.
